{"id":3315,"date":"2026-10-04T00:29:51","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T23:29:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.robertprice.co.uk\/robblog\/?p=3315"},"modified":"2026-10-04T00:30:34","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T23:30:34","slug":"taking-part-in-retro-challenge-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.robertprice.co.uk\/robblog\/taking-part-in-retro-challenge-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"RC2026 &#8211; Taking part in Retro Challenge 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After taking part in the very enjoyable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retrochallenge.org\/\">RetroChallenge <\/a>in 2024 and 2025, I&#8217;ve decided to take part again in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, my plan is to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Serial_Peripheral_Interface\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Serial_Peripheral_Interface\">SPI prototcol<\/a> so my RC2014 computer can talk to various other SPI supporting devices.<br><br>SPI stands for Serial Peripherial Interface. It uses synchronous serial communication allowing a &#8220;master&#8221; to talk to &#8220;slave&#8221;. This gives us two lines MOSI &#8211; Master Out Slave In, and MISO &#8211; Master In Slave Out. There is a also a Clock line where 1 bit of data is sent and received each pulse of the clock, and a Select line that is used to activate a device. This allows multiple devices to share the same Clock, MOSI, and MISO lines, while using individual Select lines.<br><br>The Z80 microprocessor the RC2014 uses does not natively support SPI, so I will need to put together some basic hardware as well as writing software to support it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After taking part in the very enjoyable RetroChallenge in 2024 and 2025, I&#8217;ve decided to take part again in 2026.
