Live 8 SMS Ticket Lottery

The Live 8 show in London has had a record 2,060,285 text message entries for tickets over the last week. This makes it officially the world's largest text message lottery. 1.5 million of those entries came in the first 9 hours of the competition opening. O2, who ran the competition, said people entered an average of 1.62 times each.

There are only 75,000 pairs of tickets, so my one entry gives me about a 3% chance of winning a pair.

The text messages cost 1.50UKP so have managed to raise over 3 million pounds for charity. That's pretty good going, and a great use of premium SMS.

The organisers are now repeating the exercise with 42,000 pairs of tickets for the Edinburgh concert.
