Train Services Are Getting Better, Honest

There are times when I wonder if Richard Bowker, chairman of the Strategic Rail Authority actually travels by train.

In a response to Which? Magazine he points to all the investment and to 4200 new trains being ordered since privatisation. "Everything the rail industry is doing is focused on improving rail performance and the overall journey experience of rail passengers", says Bowker.

However, his comments are badly timed as this week we've had to put up with a near collision a Tonbridge, a derailment at Ladbroke Grove, and the news that Connex and South West Trains are cutting services or just not stopping them at stations, all adding to rail travellers ongoing misery. We won't mention that lots of these new trains were unable to run as Railtrack forgot to upgrade the rail power supplies.

At least the techies at the S.R.A seem to know what they're doing, as the site seems to be built using the excellent Template Toolkit.
