Doctor Who Returns To The BBC

At last the BBC have seen sense and have confirmed that a new series of Doctor Who is to be made for BBC1.

The series will be written by Russell T Davies, creator of Queer as Folk. Lorraine Heggessey, controller of BBC1, has insisted that she does not expect Doctor Who to be gay. Davies was chosen because he is an "absolute Doctor Who fanatic".

Speculation is growing as to who will play the Doctor. Possible candiates include Paul McGann who plays the current 8th incarnation of the Doctor, Richard E Grant who will play the 9th Doctor for BBCi in November, as well as Alan Davis and Mark Gatiss.

Though the series will be initially a six part TV show it is very welcome news. New Doctor Who stories are currently limited to the excellent audio adventures from Big Finish and books from the BBC.
