Tom, Dick and Harry

The Daily Mail had the answer to the question, "Who were the original Tom, Dick and Harry" in their Coffee Break section today.

Apparently they were characters created by Talbot Baines Reed for the Boys Own Paper in 1892. The serial was originally called Dick, Tom and Harry, but the editor at the time changed the order of the names to make in run more fluently in the English language.
