Homemade Pizza

Nothing can beat a fresh homemade pizza. This recipe gives you a good fresh bread base that smells and tastes absolutely divine. This recipe will make 2 individual pizzas or one large.

You'll need the following ingredients...

  • 1 Teaspoon Dried Yeast
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 Pint Water
  • 10 Ounces (maybe more) Strong White Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Teaspoons Olive Oil
  • Your favourite toppings!

Follow the instructions below for fresh homemade pizza.

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing it with the sugar and 1/4 pint of warm water (1 part boiling to 2 parts cold).
  2. Leave this to get to work for about 10 minutes. It should start to foam a bit.
  3. Sieve the flour and salt together into a mixing bowl.
  4. Make a well in the middle of the flour and add the olive oil, the yeasty water, and the remaining 1/4 pint of warm water.
  5. Mix into a stiff dough (you may need to add a bit more flour if it's too runny, or more water if it's too dry).
  6. Knead the dough until it's strechty.
  7. Return it to the bowl and leave it somewhere warm, covered by a clean cloth, for about 45 minutes. The dough should rise during this time.
  8. Knead for a few minutes, split it in two (if making 2 pizzas), and roll out into rough circles.
  9. Put this on a greased baking tray, and add your favourite toppings.
  10. Bake for about 30 minutes on the top shelf of an over at Gas Mark 4 (180F).
  11. Remove and eat!

I hate tomato, so don't use it as a topping. Mozzarella and cheddar cheese mixed together gives a great cheese topping. Some fresh onion, chopped flat mushroom, thyme and oregano added to this makes a tasty treat.
